Training is necessary to help workers understand how and why they need to protect their hearing. Workers who understand the reasons for the hearing conservation programs and the need to protect their hearing will be more motivated to wear their protectors and undergo audiometric tests.

Employers must train employees exposed to TWAs of 85 dB and above at least annually in the effects of noise; the purpose, advantages, and disadvantages of various types of hearing protectors, the selection, fit and care of protectors, the purpose and procedures of audiometric testing. The most important thing for the employer is to communicate the information on the hearing loss / impairment and importance of prevention.

Research indicates that workplaces with appropriate and effective hearing conservation programs have higher levels of worker productivity and a lower incidence of absenteeism.

  • Understand legal requirements on hearing conservation.

  • Recognize the sources of noise in the organization.
